Ohio Valley Goodwill was pleased to host a visit and tour by Ms. Annie Wilkerson, Field Representative for U.S. Representative Brad Wenstrup on Thursday, May 22nd at the Goodwill corporate facility located in the Village of Woodlawn. Representative Wenstrup has served Ohio’s 2nd Congressional district since 2013. Ohio Valley Goodwill had reached out to Ms. Wilkerson to visit Ohio Valley Goodwill and to learn more about the programs and services that are available for individuals with disabilities and our nation’s veterans. Representative Wenstrup, a veteran himself, serves on the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and has a special interest in community programs and support services that are available for veterans. Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries has been offering a wide variety of services especially designed for veterans for more than twenty years. Goodwill’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) has been serving the needs of veterans since the early 1990’s and last year (2013), provided services to more than 750 veterans. Ms. Wilkerson was happy to learn more about Ohio Valley Goodwill’s programs and services but was especially interested to learn how Ohio Valley Goodwill helps to serve veterans in general. In addition to specialized services and programs for veterans, Ohio Valley Goodwill has an on-site dormitory that can house up to 24 veterans for short-term housing.
During the comprehensive tour, Ms. Wilkinson was enthused to learn about the programs offered by Ohio Valley Goodwill and gained a better understanding about how Ohio Valley Goodwill helps individuals to be trained for work, gain vocational experience, and how many individuals obtain community employment. Also, as part of the tour the Goodwill team explained how Ohio Valley Goodwill is involved in assisting the environment through its recycling efforts. As a community leader in recycling, Ohio Valley Goodwill typically recycles over 43 million pounds of textiles and household goods.
Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is pleased that Ms. Wilkerson was able to spend time with its team and looks forward to sharing information and working with Representative Wenstrup in the future.
