Ohio Valley Goodwill was pleased to welcome Ohio Senator Terry Johnson who represents the 14th District which includes Clermont County, to its corporate headquarters on Monday, March 27th. Senator Johnson’s visit was a result of an invitation extended during the recent Ohio Association of Goodwill Industries (OAGI) Statehouse Day held on March 21st. President and CEO, Mark Hiemstra along with members of the organization greeted the Senator and provided an extensive tour of its programs and services.
While the Senator enjoyed learning more about the organization’s award-winning Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education (CARE) program as well as its extensive Employment services, he found Goodwill’s Veterans Services programs of the most interest. A retired physician and past member of the Ohio Army National Guard and Medical Corps, the Senator has a particular interest in supporting military veterans. Veterans Services Director, Susie Skeens provided an extensive overview of the many support services which Ohio Valley Goodwill provides as well as a tour of the organization’s Transitional Dormitory which can provide temporary housing for military veterans in need of support. The Senator had the opportunity to speak with several former and current residents about their experiences and Goodwill’s services and supports.
Senator Johnson is a long-time supporter of Goodwill partner, Clermont DD, and was interested to learn more about the ongoing partnership and individuals served in Clermont County, including Goodwill’s satellite vocational center in Batavia. Following the tour, the Senator met with several Goodwill members to discuss current legislative events as well as express his gratitude to all the members he’s met in their efforts in making a difference in people’s lives.
Ohio Valley Goodwill is grateful to Senator Johnson for taking the time to visit the organization and to learn more about its important programs and services for individuals with disabilities as well as our nation’s veterans. We look forward to working collaboratively with the Senator in the future on meeting the needs of Ohio citizens.
