PigAbilities Athletes Fly During Virtual Event and Celebrate Medals with the Pig!

The 2021 Virtual PigAbilities event took flight the morning of Tuesday, June 22nd at Glenwood Gardens under gorgeous blue skies. Sixteen athletes and coaches were part of the 2021 team and completed the one mile track to the cheers and encouragement of the Pig Works cheer team. For the past several months, athletes had been learning about good nutrition, the importance of stretching and regular exercise as well as walking in the nearby community.
After completing the one mile event, athletes and coaches returned to Ohio Valley Goodwill’s corporate headquarters in Woodlawn to receive their well-deserved medals from the Pig. This year’s PigAbilities athletes include participants in the organization’s Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education (CARE) program as well as its Pre-Vocational Training program. As the Title Sponsor for the PigAbilities event, Ohio Valley Goodwill is pleased to be able to support this important inclusive event in partnership with the annual Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon which is welcoming to athletes of all abilities. PigAbilities is an empowering option for athletes of all ages and abilities who want to commit to going the distance by making healthy choices in their lives. During a typical year (pre-COVID), the PigAbilities event would take place when there are fewer crowds, increased accessibility and more parking. This year, like last year, Pig Works offered Virtual options for the summer with a planned in-person event taking place the week of October 29th-31st in downtown Cincinnati. The Fall event will feature in-person races for the Queen Bee and Flying Pig events as well as the traditional vendor Expo at the Duke Energy Center. Goodwill looks forward to next year and the ability to sponsor and host an in-person PigAbilities event which has become an much looked forward to organizational and community tradition.
