This year’s Flying Pig Marathon was a tremendous success thanks in part to beautiful weather but mostly to the enthusiastic support of the athletes involved. Ohio Valley Goodwill was pleased to be represented in both the 2014 PigAbilities race on May 3rd as well as the official Marathon event on May 4th. Goodwill athletes Melinda Gabelman and Melissa Jenkins were stars during the PigAbilities event which welcomed more than 75 participants who were completing their final mile as the culmination of the 8-week training program sponsored by the CARA group. The second annual PigAbilities event is designed to provide the opportunity for athletes with disabilities to learn about fitness, making healthy life choices and good nutrition as well as to achieve their personal goals as part of the prominent community event. At the end of the PigAbilities race, all athletes received a medal and cheers from the applauding on-lookers.
In addition, Goodwill Retail and Donations team members, Ann Walters and Vanessa Cornett completed the half-marathon in Sunday, May 4th with Walters placing in the top 25% of her division. ” Goodwill is so pleased to have so many of our team members participate in the PigAbilities race and official Flying Pig Marathon,” said Sharon Hannon, Marketing Specialist. ” We are grateful to the CARA group for their hard work in coordinating the very important PigAbilities event which truly benefits the athletes involved.”
Our congratulations to all of the 2014 Flying Pig Marathon athletes on their personal success during this year’s event. Ohio Valley Goodwill is proud to be a sponsor and supporter of the CARA group and its mission to enrich the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
