Ohio Valley Goodwill is looking forward to this year’s #GivingTuesday event, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 29th, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. As an employment and training organization for the past 100 years, Ohio Valley Goodwill prides itself on the thousands of people with disabilities and our nation’s veterans that have achieved personal success through getting jobs in our local community. It is thanks to community support that this organizational goal is possible. ” We are so grateful to the citizens of Greater Cincinnati for their unwavering support which has made Goodwill’s past century of service possible,” said Joe Byrum, President and CEO. Donations of clothing, household goods, and even shoes help to fund Ohio Valley Goodwill’s award-winning employment and training programs for our most vulnerable citizens.
92Y − a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around its core values of community service and giving back − conceptualized #GivingTuesday as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving. ” We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y. ” As we embark on our fifth year of #GivingTuesday, we are encouraged by the early response from partners eager to continue making an impact in this global conversation.” Last year on Giving Tuesday, over 700,000 people raised $116,000,000 on-line in over 70 countries.
Those who are interested in joining Ohio Valley Goodwill’s #GivingTuesday initiative can make a donation locally to the organization’s 100 year old mission of putting people to work.
