Not even the rain could dampen the spirits of veterans, staff and volunteers at the annual fall Northern Kentucky Stand Down on Friday, October 2nd. The annual event for homeless veterans was held at the Bellevue Veterans Club and featured guest speaker, Ohio State Representative Danny Bubp of the 88th district; himself a retired armed forces veteran. Representative Bubp is retired from the United States Marine Corps
and welcomed hundreds of veterans to the special day which provides services for veterans. Throughout the day veterans were able to receive services which included: medical, dental, eye care, social services, employment, career opportunities and legal aid services. In addition to Goodwill Industries, the day long event was co-sponsored by the Cincinnati Veterans Administration Medical Center, Bellevue Veteran’s Club and the Northern Kentucky One Stop. Contributing partners were the Northern Kentucky Water District, Express Catering and Prestige Catering.
The annual Stand Down is an event that is planned to help draw attention to the needs of homeless veterans and to provide a variety of services for them. ” We are always so grateful to our sponsoring organizations because it helps us to reach out to so many of our important veterans and helps to provide services for them,” said Charlie Blythe, Goodwill’s Grants Director. Goodwill has been offering services to veterans currently dealing with the challenge of homelessness for many years. We salute all of our nations veterans and thank them for the service that they have given to our country.
