Virtual Networking Event Help Match Job Seekers and Employers
Nearly 11 million Americans are currently unemployed, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Working to combat the employment challenges so many individuals face, Ohio Valley Goodwill will host a Virtual Career Fair in partnership with Goodwill Industries International during Goodwill Industries Week, May 5-7.
Goodwill is the nation’s leading nonprofit provider of job training, employment placement services and other community-based programs that are funded through the sale of donated clothing and household items. Last year, more than 3000 people in Greater Cincinnati who were struggling to find and keep good jobs benefited from Goodwill services.
” Goodwill has been connecting people in to the world of work for almost 100 years,” said Joseph Byrum, President and CEO. ” When you give to Goodwill, you are helping your neighbors to strengthen their families, and you’re strengthening our community. During this annual celebration of Goodwill Industries Week, we want to thank our supporters for their ongoing commitment and for helping create jobs in our community.”
The online Virtual Career Fair will enable job seekers to meet with employers and apply for jobs from any location. Goodwill expects more than 7,500 job seekers to participate in this year’s event. Nine employers will offer participants the opportunity to learn more about their companies, ask questions of online recruiters and submit résumés for jobs.
Participating employers include Dell, a worldwide technology and business solution provider; the University of Phoenix (Apollo Group), one of the world’s largest private education providers; Cintas, an identity uniform program manufacturer and business protection product provider; The Brickman Group, the national leader in landscape management; C&K, a world-class provider of managed services and retail solutions; Insurance Auto Auctions, Inc., a vehicle auction company; Retail Control Systems, a complete point-of-sale provider; and RightPath Resources, a leadership and talent development company.
The Goodwill Virtual Career Fair will also offer two virtual workshop webinars each day from May 5″“7. Topics include résumé writing, interviewing and understanding what employers are looking for in today’s hiring market.
Since 1951, Goodwill agencies across the United States and Canada have marked the first full week of May as Goodwill Industries Week, a commemoration that celebrates the organization’s mission of enhancing the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families and communities by eliminating challenges to finding employment and providing opportunities through job placement and training programs. This year, from May 4-10, Goodwill Industries Week will include a variety of events in communities across North America, including nearly 113 on-the-ground local career fairs occurring at nearly 50 Goodwill headquarters, as well as the virtual career fair.
