Ohio Valley Goodwill’s corporate headquarters in the village of Woodlawn was the host location for the first in a series of booster sessions affiliated with the very successful 2014 Transition Boot Camp event that recently took place at the Sharonville Convention Center. Welcoming an interested audience of families, individuals and professionals, more than 50 attendees came to learn more about the topic of employment. Presenters Aimee Rittner, Goodwill Asst. Director of Employment Services, Kelly Manns, Asst. Director of Training Services and Gary Biddle, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities,(OOD), composed the panel which provided the assembled group with tips on preparing for and attaining community employment.
The presenters offered an overview of all the things that one must think about in approaching today’s competitive job market including relevant skill training, resume preparation, interview practice, career exploration and more. Following the employment presentation offered by the Goodwill team, Gary Biddle, OOD, then explained the eligibility requirements and funding support that his agency is able to provide for individuals with disabilities seeking employment. The presenters were happy to answer numerous questions from the assembled guests about the transition planning process and how critical it is to begin planning early for life following high school.
Guests also enjoyed a delicious dinner buffet prepared by Goodwill’s Food Services Training program which offered an array of appetizers including stuffed mushrooms, marinated meatballs, a veggie plate and a wonderful fruit platter. “Ohio Valley Goodwill was so pleased to be the host location for the first of a series of booster sessions designed to offer important information for families and individuals about the adult world following graduation from high school,” said Sharon Hannon, Marketing Specialist. Goodwill was the host location for the 2013 Transition Boot Camp and has been a sponsor throughout the event’s history.
