Ohio Valley Goodwill Hosts 2009 AIM Awards Luncheon!
Ohio Valley Goodwill was delighted to be the host location for the 2009 Advocacy In Media Awards Luncheon in partnership with the CARA (Community Ambassadors Resource Alliance) group. This year was the 2nd annual awards event that celebrates the use of ” People First” language by members of the media. Randi Rico, WLWT Meteorologist, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the prestigious occasion, which welcomed more than 60 guests including newspaper journalists, television personalities, self-advocates and Goodwill partners. Randi, along with John Romer, HCBMR/DD, co-facilitated the exciting ceremony which honored finalists in both print and electronic media categories. 
Lindsey Hilty, Cox Ohio Media Group, and Paul Daugherty, Cincinnati Enquirer, were the 2009 award winners in the Print Media category and in the Electronic Media category, Todd Dykes, WLWT was selected as the 2009 award recipient. Also, new this year was a special sensitivity award created to recognize the efforts of Bob Herzog, WKRC, in using People First language in his broadcasts, following a request by Leaders In Action. The new award was named after Marvin Moss, who inspired the creation of the Advocacy In Media group more than two years ago. Highlights of the 2009 event included comments from keynote speaker Robert Shuemak, who shared his own personal story of disability and achievement; recognition of the initial support of both Michael Flannery and Krista Ramsey, Enquirer; and the enthusiasm of Randi Rico in support of the Advocacy In Media group’s efforts. ” Ohio Valley Goodwill was thrilled to be once again the host location for the annual AIM Awards Luncheon,” said George Palmer, PR and Marketing Director. ” We look forward to working with CARA on next year’s special event,” added Palmer.
