National Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week is an annual celebration that highlights the life-changing contributions of the direct support professional workforce. From September 14th-September 18th, human service organizations across the country take positive steps to acknowledge Direct Support Professionals (DSP’s). Ohio Valley Goodwill works in partnership with four County Boards of Developmental Disabilities (Hamilton, Butler, Clermont and Warren) and provides an array of work training, personal enrichment and employment services for individuals with Developmental Disabilities who are served by the County Boards. The Direct Support Professionals who provide the training, enrichment and employment support services offered by the organization are vital members of the Goodwill team. This year in particular has been exceptionally challenging for Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Direct Support Professionals (DSP) as they have continued to provide outstanding services despite all of the challenges presented by the Coronavirus. Goodwill’s DSP team have helped individuals to safely access places of employment, training opportunities and enrichment experiences all the while maintaining conformance to all health and safety guidelines. For many of Goodwill’s program participants, learning to wear masks, maintain social distancing, learn new health protocols of daily temperature checks and increased hand sanitation has been difficult and our DSP team have been essential to the successful implementation of these daily safety routines.
Ohio Valley Goodwill is grateful to our Direct Support Professionals and thanks them for their important contributions to the individuals we serve and to our on-going mission of helping people with disabilities to achieve personal success.
