Memorial Day (May 30, 2022) is a special day set aside to honor our military members who gave their lives for our country. Since the holiday’s beginnings following the American Civil War, it’s been a somber day of remembrance and gratefulness.
While the focus is on those Americans we’ve lost in active duty, Memorial Day also acts as a reminder that we owe a lot to those who have served and sacrificed so much on behalf of our country. Our military veterans deserve to have access to the resources they need to reintegrate into our communities as happy, healthy, and productive citizens. At Ohio Valley Goodwill, we’re proud to provide support to veterans experiencing homelessness in our area through a wide variety of programs and services.
Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Specialized Services aim to help local veterans experiencing homelessness successfully transition into civilian life. We are proud to participate in Cincinnati’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Projects (HVRP), which provides support and assistance in career planning, job placement, and finding housing. Case management services, counseling, transportation, clothing, and child-care assistance are also available for those who qualify.
In this program, each eligible veteran is assigned a case manager who assesses their needs and assists with all aspects of helping the veteran rejoin their community as a fully integrated member. All services include:
For long-term stability and success, Ohio Valley Goodwill also focuses on career planning and job placement for local veterans facing homelessness.
As part of our Veteran Services Program, Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Case Managers help veterans discover their career potential and obtain community employment. This includes assistance with everything from finding interview clothing to career planning, developing a résumé, and assisting with interview preparation. Upon employment, they help the veteran with everything needed to ensure job retention and maintain personal and vocational success.
Our nation’s veterans deserve to be welcomed back into our communities with the support needed to achieve security, stability, and fulfillment in the next stage of their lives. Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Specialized Services for veterans aim to make that happen, and in turn, Greater Cincinnati will be better for it!
This Memorial Day, as we remember those Americans who gave their lives for our country, recommit yourself to making a difference in the lives of those military men and women who are still with us as well. Supporting Goodwill’s vocational services for veterans by donating your gently-used goods or shopping in our retail stores is an easy way to help our veterans access the tools they need to rejoin civilian life feeling appreciated, accomplished, and fulfilled.
