During this pandemic, a lot of people have demonstrated just how essential they are to the workforce. In recognition of the 7 5th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we wanted to share a very special success story about a person who truly is an essential employee. For the past three years, Katie Riede has worked for Surgical Appliance Industries as a Production Associate. Katie works in the warehouse packaging the products to be boxed and shipped to local and out of state businesses. Obviously, Katie’s job is even more critical now than it has ever been as the country still struggles to address the current health crisis. Katie also has shown she can take on more duties and has moved up to working on a machine. She has been a hard worker and loyal employee from the beginning of her employment.
Katie’s supervisor at work notes that ” Katie is doing a great job for us and has really showed us she can do more things in the warehouse.”
When Katie is not working she likes to go to dance classes and ballet classes. She also enjoys bowling, track, and basketball. At home, Katie likes to help around the house with household chores and listen to music. One of her favorite things to do is to go to Planet Fitness with her father. She also helps take care of her five year old nephew. We are very grateful to Katie for her willingness to share her wonderful story and congratulate her on her outstanding employment success.
Katie’s story is just one of the many thousands of stories that Ohio Valley Goodwill and its Employment Services team is proud to share. For more than a century, Ohio Valley Goodwill’s mission has been to help people with disabilities to obtain jobs in the community and attain personal success. Goodwill’s Employment Services team offers comprehensive services to assist individuals with their goal for community employment from the beginning stages of choosing the right vocational direction to finding the right employment opportunity and supports while in their chosen job.
