For more than thirty years, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been proudly offering services for Veterans in helping them attain self-sufficiency. Through its Homeless Veterans Reintegration Projects (HVRP) program, Veterans can receive assistance for career planning, job placement, and finding housing. Residential programs, counseling, food, clothing and monetary assistance are available for those who qualify. One of the hallmarks of Goodwill’s programs however, is that all of the team members are veterans themselves. Dennis Koenig, HVRP Case Manager, served with the Army and feels very strongly about his ability to offer a helping hand to his fellow veteran. “As a veteran myself as well as most of our Goodwill team members, we can relate to the individuals we’re serving. We understand from personal experience, a lot of the challenges they’re facing and of course, the current health crisis makes it tougher than ever. I’m glad that our Goodwill Veterans Services team is available to lend a helping hand to veterans in need of assistance.” Koenig was previously employed with a homeless shelter for men more than 10 years ago and witnessed a Case Manager from Goodwill’s HVRP program come out on a Saturday night to work on an intake interview. “That visit really inspired me…I thought that’s the kind of organization I would be glad to be part of,” said Koenig.
The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Projects (HVRP) are employment-driven Department of Labor funded programs designed to provide the supports and assistance needed for eligible veterans to obtain employment, housing assistance and economic stability. Each veteran is assigned a case manager who provides assistance in all aspects of helping the veteran rejoin their community as a fully integrated member.
Goodwill also operates a VA funded ” Per diem” residential program which is a program for eligible homeless veterans in need of employment assistance and intensive and holistic services in order to achieve long-term self-sufficiency. The goal of all participants is to ultimately achieve full-time employment within the community.
