Tuesday, June 13th was a busy day as Ohio Valley Goodwill welcomed participants to its 2023 Summer Youth program. More than 50 students are learning about the world of work through eight different community-based employment settings with the support of Goodwill’s Job Coaching team. As part of the Summer Youth Service, each student has the opportunity to learn work appropriate skills in a paid work experience on typical job sites. After their community work experience, each student along with Goodwill staff report to the referring counselor through Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, regarding the experience and job preferences. In this follow-up meeting, the Goodwill team member provides recommendations to assist individuals in moving forward with their vocational goals.
This year’s Summer Youth participants will have the opportunity to experience a variety of different work responsibilities and will be supported by Goodwill team members at all locations. A host of work opportunities are explored including at seven different Goodwill retail locations across the Greater Cincinnati community as well as its Contributed Goods warehouse. All of the settings offer the chance for students to fully become engaged in the different aspects that each employment opportunity presents. ” It’s going to be a busy summer and we are so looking forward to supporting this year’s program participants on their journey to learn more about the world of work and prepare for graduation,” said Chelsea Ashcraft, Director of Rehabilitation Services.
