Monday, December 15th was a memorable day in the lives of two families served through Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Veterans Services programs. The Reffit and Cain families were warmly welcomed by Executive Chef Nathan Whittington and his staff team as they sat down at the Moerlein Lager House for a special holiday luncheon event in their honor. The luncheon was sponsored by the Lager House as an opportunity to provide holiday recognition for two families that have served our nation and are currently facing challenging times.
Eight members of the Reffit family along with their Goodwill Case Manager, Claudette Crawford and four members of the Cain family along with their Case Manager, Ida Allen enjoyed the festive event which was especially designed by the Moerlein Lager House team to make the families holidays extra special this year. Family members enjoyed the delicious meal which featured gourmet appetizers, pizza, cheeseburgers, salads, fruit and more along with a decadent chocolate dessert.
Chef Whittington and the Moerlein Lager House team were very gracious throughout the meal and enjoyed the happy faces of the younger children as they stared at the Christmas tree and tried out everything brought to the table. The three youngest, Robert, Elizabeth and Cameron were particularly big fans of the soft pretzels and dip thoughtfully prepared by the Chef and his team. Early next week, the Moerlein team will be sending a holiday check for both families with funds raised by the restaurant employees and managers.
“Ohio Valley Goodwill could not be more grateful to the Moerlein Lager House staff team and Chef Whittington for this wonderful holiday gift in honor of these very deserving veteran families,” said Sharon Hannon, Goodwill Marketing Specialist. “It is this very special kind of community support that makes it possible for our families to enjoy the holiday season.”
