The holiday season started early at Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries with the annual Thanksgiving luncheon on Tuesday, November 22nd. Sponsored by the Goodwill Service Guild, the yearly luncheon is an annual special event for program participants and staff and is organized by the volunteer organization and Goodwill’s Food Service training program. “We enjoy sponsoring the luncheon each year and always actively assist with the arrangements,” remarked Nancy Horton, Service Guild President. More than 700 meals were served on Tuesday. Preparations for the large scale luncheon begin days ahead in Goodwill’s food service training kitchen under the direction of Chef Alison McElfresh. “We all pitch in and focus on the traditional meal for days so that we can serve the large number that is always expected,” said Chef Alison. In addition to the traditional turkey and dressing, pounds and pounds of mashed potatoes are served along with green beans, rolls and butter, cranberry sauce and last but not least an assortment of freshly baked pies. The traditional meal has long been offered at Goodwill and has been sponsored by the Service Guild for many years. In this season of giving thanks, Goodwill recognizes the Service Guild for its on-going generosity and support of the individuals the organization serves as well as its staff team members.
