Saturday, September 17th marked the official kick-off of the 2016 STAR64 Saturday High School Rivals and the launch of the Goodwill High School Donation Challenge. This week’s featured game was Lakewood St. Edward vs. Elder. As part of the Goodwill High School Donation Challenge, schools are asked to collect donations for the week prior to the game. In addition, before the featured game of the week, the school selects a “Goodwill Scholar Athlete of the Week” to be recognized. At Saturday’s exciting game, the year’s first “Goodwill Scholar Athlete of the Week” was announced: Mr. Eric Reuss!
Eric has a 4.0 GPA and very involved in volunteer efforts in the Greater Cincinnati community. As a “Goodwill Scholar Athlete of the Week,” Eric will now be in the consideration for the “Goodwill Athletic Scholar of the Year.” The selection will be made at the end of the season and the lucky athlete will receive a $5000.00 college scholarship to the college of their choice. This is the second year that Ohio Valley Goodwill and STAR64 have worked together on the Goodwill High School Donation Drive and are excited about this year’s games and athletes.
During the week before the game, Elder High School and their students, families and teachers collected more than 2700 pounds of donations to benefit Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries and its 100 year old mission of putting people with disabilities and our nation’s veterans to work in our community.
Our most sincere congratulations to Eric Reuss and Elder High School on being such a wonderful example of sharing good will in our community. To find out more about STAR64 High School Rivals, visit http://star64.tv/community/saturday-hs-rivals/goodwill-high-school-challenge
