Goodwill Promotes “Reduce, Reuse and Re-Purpose!”
For almost 100 years, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been an entrepreneurial leader, environmental pioneer and social innovator of the “reduce, reuse and repurpose” movement. Through its business model of collecting and selling donated goods, Goodwill helps communities extend the life of usable items in environmentally sound ways and prevents items from piling up in local landfills. In fact, just last year, Ohio Valley Goodwill helped to recycle more than 45,000,000 lbs. of donated items keeping them out of area landfills.
In addition to the environmental benefits that Goodwill supports through its focus on “reducing, reusing and repurposing,” the organization uses the proceeds from items sold in its network of retail stores to provide employment and training programs for people with disabilities and our nation’s veterans. Last year, Goodwill helped more than 3,400 people and assisted almost 1000 to obtain jobs and experience personal success.
Goodwill takes pride in its efforts to recycle responsibly and partner with the Greater Cincinnati community in doing so. The organization regularly works with local organizations in offering community donation drives to provide local residents with the opportunity to de-clutter and choose to recycle responsibly by donating to Goodwill. In the past two months alone, Goodwill helped to divert more than 61,000 lbs. of unwanted computers and other electronic items from area landfills through its Earth Day donation event as well as 52,000 lbs. of textiles and other items through the Oxford ShareFest donation drive.
