Ohio Valley Goodwill was delighted to welcome thousands of excited shoppers to its 2023 Pig Pop Up Shop over the weekend during the Flying Pig Marathon’s P&G Health and Fitness Expo. With more than 40,000 visitors during the two day event, Team Goodwill worked hard in helping runners to find the best deals on the racks of athleisure and running gear. The Goodwill Pop Up Shop was one of the most popular attractions of the two day Expo event and dozens of shoppers remarked on what a great idea it was for Goodwill to be a featured vendor at the event. The Goodwill team had worked for months ahead of time collecting just the right inventory to attract shoppers to this year’s Pig Pop Up Shop.
The 2023 Expo took place on Friday, May 5th and Saturday, May 6th and featured dozens of vendors with everything from apparel to shoes to nutritional supplements for all those in attendance. To view the Expo and Pig Pop-Up Shop, check out the Pop-Up Shop.
The excitement of the Goodwill Pop-Up Shop was only equaled by PigAbilities which took place on Saturday, May 6th at 12 noon. The 2023 PigAbilities event marked a record-breaking number of participants- over 700! Ohio Valley Goodwill has been the Title Sponsor of the PigAbilities event for the past seven years and was more than excited about this year’s event which marked the 25th Anniversary of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. This year welcomed Thane Maynard, Director of the Cincinnati Zoo, as the Honorary Chairman for the PigAbilities event in recognition of the Zoo’s sponsorship of passes for all PigAbilities participants. Maynard joined Flying Pig Marathon Executive Director, Iris Simpson-Bush along with Goodwill Marketing Director and Event Coordinator, Sharon Hannon, to welcome the PigAbilities athletes at this year’s event. Dozens of ” cheerleaders” and supporters lined the course, loudly cheering on the athletes. Many of the volunteers are employees from Paycor, who is one of the major sponsors of the Flying Pig Marathon and has been a huge supporter of the PigAbilities event. For the first time in the past seven years, athletes enjoyed sunshine and blue skies as they walked, rolled and ran across the Finish Swine and proudly collected their medals.
The year’s PigAbilities event was supported by not only Goodwill but also the Pig Works team, Paycor, Hamilton County DD Services as well as Butler DD and the Center for Independent Living Options (CILO) as well as many other agencies in the larger Cincinnati community in an effort to increase awareness and participation in the inclusive and welcoming event for athletes of all abilities.
The 2023 PigAbilities event finished in the best possible way with medals for all participants and a party at the Goodwill Celebration booth which was hosted by Goodwill team volunteers. All of the Team Goodwill athletes loved the cookies and celebrating a successful PigAbilities event as part of the 25th anniversary of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon.
Our most sincere CONGRATULATIONS to all of the 2023 PigAbilities athletes and to ” Team Goodwill” for their outstanding performance in this year’s PigAbilities event! Enjoy the PigAbilities video.
