Goodwill Announces New Grants to Assist Veterans and Families!

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center announces that it is one of several Ohio agencies that have received grant awards from the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Services for Veterans Families. The $975,871 grant will allow Ohio Valley Goodwill to continue its work to stabilize veteran families that are in housing crisis. Goodwill services will include support, case management, and assistance with benefits as well as, providing some temporary financial assistance in areas that most families truly need. The organization expects to serve over 300 families in the coming year. In conjunction with other federal grants, this new Department of Veterans Affairs grant will allow Ohio Valley Goodwill is to expand the organization’s assistance to homeless veterans and those at risk of becoming homeless in the near term. Goodwill’s goal is not only to help overcome the housing crisis, but to provide lasting stability by assisting the veteran with job placement and service-related benefits as well as helping other adults in the household in their employment search. Along with the 300 families this grant will serve, Goodwill expects to provide services to an additional 500 homeless veterans through its Department of Labor, HUD, and VA Grant and Per Diem programs. ” We are pleased to be able to serve even more individuals and families though this new grant program and to be able to assist with housing, vocational services, and other personal assistance for the veterans that we serve,” said Bill Darnell, Goodwill’s Grants Manager. For more than twenty years, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been offering programs and services to meet the needs of veterans and homeless individuals. ” We are proud of the programs and services that we have been offering since the early 1990’s that help to serve veterans, as well as the successes that we have had in the area of housing for our veterans,” said Charlie Blythe, Goodwill’s Grants Director. Locally, in 2012, Ohio Valley Goodwill served more than 700 veterans. ” These new grants will enable us to provide even greater services to veterans and their families to help ensure their long-term stability,’ said Blythe.
