Go Green with Goodwill!

#1: Get outside

Summertime is the right time to be outside, and while you are, you’ll be cutting down on harmful car emissions. The more you run, walk, bike, skate, or rollerblade instead of driving, the more you’re helping to clean the air. You can also lower your gas bill and help the planet by carpooling or taking public transportation.

Another advantage of going outside is taking a break from the electronic world. Turn off the TV, digital devices and lights, turn up the AC, and join the world outside. You can get some exercise, do some gardening, read, or relax in a lounger. Your electricity bill and our energy resources will thank you!

#2: Eat green

Growing your own food or buying from a local farmer’s market can make a big impact on the environment. You might wonder why “” food is food, right? Not exactly! Buying local can help cut down on the gas emissions it takes to transport food from its source to your table.

Imagine enjoying delicious meals with fresh-from-the-garden produce that came from your own backyard! While you may believe you don’t have a ” green” thumb, it’s not as difficult as you think to grow your own fruits and veggies.

Of course, not everything on your grocery list can come from your own garden. Local farmers’ markets are a great alternative to grocery stores. You can find produce, meats, eggs, honey, herbs and spices, bread, nuts “” even treats for your pets!

#3: Donate to Goodwill

One of the best ways to go green is by reusing items rather than throwing them away. You can give your unwanted ” stuff” a new life by donating to Goodwill! Donate your clothes, books, shoes, toys, household items “” even that no-longer-needed car  “” and you’re helping to keep landfills from filling up with reusable goods.
