Father’s Day is just around the corner, so now is the time to head out to your local department store to buy Dad another tie or t-shirt.
Or”¦you could make a beeline to your local Ohio Valley Goodwill store and get Dad something really memorable. Take a cue from the gift basket set and create a custom and affordable “basket” for the dad in your life (hint: Goodwill has excellent things to stow those items in, too).
All you have to do is choose your ” dad” type and let the creativity begin!
Dad type #1: The Outdoorsman
Whether he’s into camping, fishing, hunting or hiking, look for things like:
Tents, flashlights, thermal bottles, lures, fireside items, action vests, hiking socks, flannel shirt, sturdy shoes or muck boots, pocket knives, or a camp blanket”¦
And the ” basket” ““ a backpack, of course!
Dad type #2: The Reader
Your local Goodwill store is a mecca for gently-used paperback and hardbound books of just about any topic or theme, including history, mystery thrillers, the classics, sports, politics, culture, business, self-help, audio books, psychology, humor, finances, and cooking. Whatever your dad is interested in, Ohio Valley Goodwill likely has it!
And the ” basket”””a plastic bin in his favorite color will look good and store easily.
Dad type #3: The Sports Fan
Whether your dad is into watching or playing, you’ll find sports-related gifts that he’ll love to have when you shop at Goodwill. Look for items like:
Balls (baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, bocce, volley, beach”¦did we miss any?), dumbbells, golf bag, yoga mat, fitness DVD’s, logoed shirts with all his favorite teams, foldable chairs for tailgating, and much more!
And the ” basket”””a repurposed bookshelf with cubbies will give dad lots of spaces for his sports stuff.
Day type #4: The Traveler
If your dad enjoys roaming, here’s a travel package he’ll appreciate:
Toiletry or overnight bag, airplane overhead storage, theme collectibles from his favorite locations, luggage sets, tags, travel journal, plastic bottles kits, water bottle, neck pillow, headphones”¦the list goes on!
And the “basket”””a vintage suitcase is efficient storage and can even be used decoratively around the house.
Dad Type #5: The Collector
We can’t list everything your dad might be into, but you can probably find it at Ohio Valley Goodwill! A few collections we know men love include:
Comic books, toys and action figures, coins, vintage music and vinyl records, sports team memorabilia, iconic signs, vintage tech devices, and tools.
And the ” basket” ““ match the storage with the items, e.g., an old jewelry box could store coins, a wooden crate neatly holds records or comic books. Special note: If a rare product is in its original packaging, don’t remove it! A great place to look for collectible items is Goodwil’s online auction site, shopgoodwill.com.
Dad type #6: The Grandpa
This one’s easy! Every grandpa loves pictures of the kids and grandkids. Shop at Ohio Valley Goodwill for lots of frames in all kinds of sizes, colors, and shapes. Take it up a notch by inserting recent family photos in all the frames you buy!
And the ” basket” ““ a thoughtful idea here is to also look for wall shelves for grandpa to proudly display his family photos.
