1916

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries started by Methodist minister Dr. Richard Scully

1918

Introduced the Goodwill Bag to encourage donated goods

1948

First formal rehabilitation skills training program initiated

1951

First United Clothing Drive

1957

Goodwill opens new Woodlawn complex

Dormitory created to offer housing originally for program participants who traveled to Goodwill for rehabilitation services (Occupational Therapy along with Skill Training). Now serves as Transitional Housing for Veterans challenged with homelessness.

Coordination of a United Food and Clothing Drive which continued for almost 40 years in partnership with the Boy Scouts and partner organizations in the Greater Cincinnati community.

1959

First deposit boxes (collection centers) placed on location

1965

Comprehensive rehabilitation services offered

1979

Implemented supported employment programs

1980's

Programs and services offered including Skills Training in Watch Repair, Commercial Sewing and Furniture Repair, Computer and Office Procedures Training, Janitorial and Food Service Training.

1988

Partnership with the Hamilton County Board of Mental Retardation and Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation

1990's

Assistive Technology program introduced as well as thought leadership and consultation on the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and employer compliance.

1991

Ohio Valley Goodwill on Fountain Square for 75th Anniversary Celebration and showcase of programs and services.

1990

J.M. Foundation Award for innovation and excellence

1993

Goodwill initiates Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program to serve local veterans

Launch of the Consumer Advisory Council; a self-advocacy initiative designed to support individuals to speak up for themselves and others with disabilities. This group became very involved in community outreach and legislative advocacy and was very active until 2019.

1995

Historic and collaborative partnerships with Goodwill Industries International which included a visit to China in 1995 and hosting of a Chinese Delegation at Ohio Valley Goodwill in Cincinnati.

1996

Visit and partnership with Yuri Federov, a representative from Russia, as well as welcoming other international thought leaders to Ohio Valley Goodwill to learn about providing employment services to people with disabilities.

1998

Hosting and coordination of the Annual Homeless Awareness Dinner in partnership with the Sharonville Convention Center for more than 20 years which served more than 300 people annually.

1999

First deposit boxes (collection centers) placed on location

Goodwill receives $28,848 grant form the Greater Cincinnati Foundation for Homeless Opportunities Program

Goodwill institutes Special Gifts campaign to build new production facility and renovate corporate complex

2000's

An array of Community-Based employment and enrichment programs designed to enhance community inclusion and membership. This includes the award-winning Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education program (CARE) in 2004.

2000

Goodwill receives $197,574 grant form the U.S. Department of Labor for its Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program

Miss America, Heather French and U.S. Secretary of Labor, Alexis Herman visit Goodwill Industries

Team Goodwill participates in the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon as a Relay team and raises $5000 for the organization. This becomes the launch of Ohio Valley Goodwill’s involvement with the Marathon and sponsorship of the annual PigAbilities event for athletes of all abilities for the next 20 years and currently.

2001

Launch of Goodwill Golf Outing- single annual fund-raiser for Ohio Valley Goodwill

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards Goodwill with two grants totallying $873,936 to assist homeless disabled persons to find permanent housing and to receive training and employment assistance
