Like everyone in Cincinnati right now, at Ohio Valley Goodwill we have Spring Fever! One of the annual events that helps us get focused on the new Spring and warmer temps is planning for and training for the annual Flying Pig Marathon.
For the past 15 years, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been a participant in the Flying Pig Marathon. Whether as a team running to raise funds for the organization’s mission or as part of PigAbilities, a recent addition to the Marathon which is designed specifically to support athletes with disabilities; Goodwill has been there.
This year is no exception. Pigabilities training kicks off on March 21st at the Mayerson JCC and continues every Saturday at 10 am at both the JCC and Beech Acres Park for interested participants. PigAbilities offers support and encouragement for people with disabilities of all ages who want to successfully walk, run or wheel in the marathon event.
To help athletes achieve their own personal goals, the CARA Group (Community Ambassadors Resource Alliance) of which Goodwill is a founding member; provides a FREE 5 week training program prior to the PigAbilities event on May 2nd.
PigAbilities training is also an opportunity for anyone to become a volunteer guide. Guides are encouraged to attend training sessions to provide on-going support to athletes. Registration for this year’s PigAbilities event must be completed by April 18th at www.flyingpigmarathon.com and select “PigAbilities.”

Join us in achieving your own fitness goal this Spring as well as in helping athletes with disabilities to do so as well. It’s a great cure for Spring Fever!
