New Public Service Ads Show How Goodwill ® Creates Brighter Futures for Communities Like Ours
Many people know Goodwill as a place to donate their gently used items or to find great deals on clothing, housewares and other goods. But do they necessarily think of Goodwill as a job creator? Local Olympian and volunteer, Julie Isphording has been supporting Goodwill’s job creation efforts for years through her generous personal donations. She has also taken her advocacy one step further by initiating a high profile partnership with the annual Thanksgiving Day 10k Run/Walk. “Giving to Goodwill is a wonderful and meaningful way to give back to our community,” said Isphording. “I think they are one of the strongest charities in our community.” Donations are sold in Goodwill’s network of retail stores and proceeds are used to support the organization’s important skill training and employment services. Last year, Ohio Valley Goodwill served almost 3000 people with disabilities and our nation’s veterans and helped 824 to get jobs in the community. Nationally, last year alone, nearly 217,000 people in the United States and Canada obtained meaningful employment as a result of Goodwill’s career services. In addition, Goodwill provided employment training, job placement and other community-based services, such as financial education and youth mentoring, to more than 6.7 million people. Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is proud to join a nationwide effort with The Ad Council to encourage all Americans to help create jobs by donating to Goodwill. Our new Public Service Advertisements (PSAs) set out to educate audiences about how their donated goods help fund job training programs in their communities. With the simple tagline, ” Donate Stuff. Create Jobs.,” the campaign seeks to highlight the role that Goodwill plays in promoting independence and dignity for people of all backgrounds. The PSAs feature a variety of inspiring scenes “” someone who has just landed a new job; someone who is gratified by preparing a box of goods to donate; and someone who leaves the house for a fulfilling day at work “” to show the many different ways that Goodwill has the power to change lives. The ads will be distributed in both English and Spanish to the Ad Council’s network of more than 33,000 TV, radio, outdoor, print and digital media outlets. All PSAs direct audiences to visit Goodwill.org to find their local donation centers. You may know the Ad Council as the nonprofit behind thousands of memorable and successful PSA campaigns that have addressed the most pressing social issues of the day. Now, they’ve teamed up with Goodwill to promote the message that a simple goods donation can help people find a new sense of dignity, meaning and purpose. It’s not news that in the current economic landscape, good jobs can be difficult to come by, but it may be wonderful news that there is a way to help. At Goodwill, we’re doing our part to help people get back on their feet. We hope that you will, too. Please give generously today- Donate to Goodwill!
