Despite a brief rain delay on the morning of June 18th, Ohio Valley Goodwill’s 2009 Celebrity Golf Outing teed off with great excitement for the almost 200 golfers and celebrities who were part of this year’s event. Though temperatures were summer-like throughout the day, players found welcome relief at the 4 Grill Stations, conveniently located throughout the course. A new feature this year, golfers seemed to really enjoy the opportunity to grab a snack and a beverage before heading back to the links.

The highlight of this year’s outing however, had to be the enthusastic volunteer efforts of Goodwill’s CARE program participants as they greeted golfers arriving at the course. Their cheers and applause for individual players were received with smiles of gratitude and left an indelible impression on Goodwill’s many guests. Another highlight of this year’s event was the addition of Stephanie Mitchell as trophy presenter at the dinner awards ceremony. Stephanie is a community employee who is supported by Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Job Coaching services. 2009 Title Sponsor, Dwyer Companies, was elated to be part of the festivities and demonstrated their support through the formal presentation of a check for $15,000 as Title Sponsor. Long-time partner, MVD Communications also showed their support as Presenting Sponsor and as 2nd place Gross and Net Winners. Goodwill friend and partner, Cheryl Phipps, (Superintendent of the Hamilton County Board of MR/DD) reprised her performance as Women’s Longest Drive champion along with Cyndi Blalock and Meghan Mongillo.

The day’s events were capped off by a surprise birthday celebration for honorary chairman Joe Walter, who for the 9th year in a row, has volunteered his time in support of Ohio Valley Goodwill and its mission of putting people to work. Goodwill’s team members were thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate Joe’s efforts in this uniquely memorable way. Ohio Valley Goodwill is extremely grateful to our many sponsors, supporters, celebrity guests and friends for their assistance in making the 2009 Goodwill Celebrity Golf Outing a wonderful success.
