PigAbilities 2024 Breaks All Records!

The 2024 PigAbilities event sponsored by Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries, broke all previous records for participation this year with more than 1,200 athletes and coaches participating. PigAbilities is designed to be a fully welcoming, accessible, inclusive event which took place on Saturday, May 4th this year as part of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon weekend.  Ohio Valley Goodwill has been the Title Sponsor of the PigAbilities event for the past eight years and was more than excited about this year’s event which marked the 26th Anniversary of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon. This year welcomed Thane Maynard, Director of the Cincinnati Zoo, as the Honorary Chairman for the PigAbilities event in recognition of the Zoo’s sponsorship of passes for all PigAbilities participants and well as the first official Launch party for PigAbilities on March 9th. Maynard joined Flying Pig Marathon Executive Director, Iris Simpson-Bush, Cincinnati Mayor, Aftab Pureval, along with Goodwill Marketing Director and Event Coordinator, Sharon Hannon, to welcome the PigAbilities athletes at this year’s event. 2024 marks the last year that Sharon Hannon, Goodwill Coach and long-time Coordinator of the PigAbilities event will be leading Team Goodwill and promoting the event as she retires after 34 years of service to the organization and its mission.

Dozens of ” cheerleaders” and supporters lined the course, loudly cheering on the athletes. Many of the volunteers are employees from Paycor, who is one of the major sponsors of the Flying Pig Marathon and has been a huge supporter of the PigAbilities event. This year, PigAbilities athletes proudly flew across the Finish Swine to collect their well-earned medals.

The 2024 PigAbilities event was supported by not only Goodwill but also the Pig Works team, Paycor, Hamilton County DD Services as well as Butler DD and the Center for Independent Living Options (CILO) as well as many other agencies in the larger Cincinnati community in an effort to increase awareness and participation in the inclusive and welcoming event for athletes of all abilities.

Our most sincere CONGRATULATIONS to all of the 2024 PigAbilities athletes and to ” Team Goodwill” for their outstanding performance in this year’s PigAbilities event! Enjoy the PigAbilities video.

In addition, Ohio Valley Goodwill was pleased to host the 2024 Pig Pop Up Shop at the Health and Fitness Expo on May 3rd and 4th and to welcome thousands of eager shoppers to its ever-popular (and now re-designed) booth. With more than 50,000 visitors during the two day event, Team Goodwill enthusiastically helped runners to find the best deals on the racks of athleisure and running gear. The Goodwill Pop Up Shop was one of the most popular attractions of the two day Expo event and numerous shoppers remarked on what a great idea it was for Goodwill to be a featured vendor at the event. The Goodwill team had worked for months ahead of time collecting just the right inventory for the shoppers to this year’s Pig Pop Up Shop.
