Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Marketing Director, Sharon Hannon, was pleased to be in attendance at the Ohio Promise Town Hall hosted by People Working Cooperatively on Thursday, August 15th. State Representatives Denson, Kelly, Ingram and Miranda as well as Senator Cecil Thomas were the honored guests presenting to the assembled audience members. The four Representatives and Senator were there to talk about the Ohio Promise- a legislative framework aimed at expanding opportunity by investing in Ohio’s future and building an economy that works for everyone.
The plan includes a number of bipartisan priorities, including plans to protect healthcare and Medicaid expansion, invest in education, expand public transit and improve children’s services, in addition to reforming the state’s tax system and reducing the price of prescription drugs.
The Legislators presented their positions on a variety of legislative priorities of current community interest including the state budget, employment, increased opportunity and other timely issues. As the ambassador for Ohio Valley Goodwill at the event, Hannon was eager to learn about the Representatives’ thoughts on human services and social safety nets for our most vulnerable citizens. The Forum was designed to offer the opportunity for each Representative to speak and then, provided an interactive question and answer period. The event was well attended with most audience members expressing concerns related to public safety, reducing gun violence in our community, protection of our waterways and educational reforms.
At the conclusion of the Forum, Sharon Hannon, Marketing Director and Legislative Liaison was able to extend a cordial invitation to Representatives Denson and Kelly inviting them to tour Ohio Valley Goodwill’s Employment and Training Center. Representative Miranda and Senator Thomas had both recently visited the facility and met with the Executive team about the organization’s legislative priorities in support of the individuals Goodwill serves. For more than 100 years, Ohio Valley Goodwill has been providing employment and training services and helping people with disabilities and our nation’s veterans to get jobs. The organization works collaboratively with legislators and other community partners to continue to support its mission of service for citizens in the Greater Cincinnati community.
