Ohio Valley Goodwill is pleased to be a host location for a Honk and Wave event in celebration of the 28th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The landmark legislation was passed in 1990 by President George Bush and provided the nation’s first comprehensive civil rights law addressing the needs of people with disabilities, prohibiting discrimination in employment, public services, public accommodations and telecommunications. As an employment and training agency who has been helping people with disabilities to obtain employment opportunities in the Greater Cincinnati community for more than 100 years, Ohio Valley Goodwill is proud to be a partner for the 2018 ADA celebration. Goodwill joins with Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services, CILO, Council on Aging and Easter Seals to commemorate the historic anniversary.
Goodwill’s ambassadors from its Center for Advocacy, Recreation and Education (CARE) program are already busy working on signs for the event and Public Information Officer, Michael Flannery, will serve as Celebrity ADA Champion during the Honk and Wave. Flannery along with Facebook Live co-host, Alisha Tyler, will be broadcasting live from the front of the organization’s headquarters on Thursday, July 26th and sharing all of the highlights of the celebration. One of the topics which will be covered is how the ADA impacts the lives of people with disabilities in our community.
Following the Honk and Wave events, a Disability Pride Walk is being held at Smale Riverfront park from 4-6 pm, followed by a free concert. Please plan to join Goodwill and its partners organizations in celebrating the 28th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on Thursday, July 26th.
