Spring is finally here in Cincinnati, and many people are taking advantage of the warmer weather to clean and organize their homes. As you clean out your closets, garage, or other storage spaces, consider donating your gently used clothing, shoes, accessories or other household items to Goodwill.
Not only will donating to your local Goodwill help you declutter and organize your home for spring, but your donation has a direct impact on providing life-changing services and programs for people with disabilities, veterans and military families, and others facing barriers to employment. Here are three simple steps to donate to Goodwill and help build a brighter future for individuals in your community.
- Find items around your home to donate
The first place to start is by gathering new or gently used items from around your home that you and your family no longer need. For example, are there household goods you no longer use? Is there a shirt in your closet that you don’t wear anymore? Do you have books, games, or toys that your children have outgrown? As you start spring cleaning your home, make a pile of items to keep and items to donate to Goodwill.
- Double-check your items
Once you’ve created a pile of things to donate to Goodwill, it’s a good idea to sort through your items to check that your donations are in working condition, contain all their pieces, and are free from stains or rips. Now that you’ve collected your items to donate, it’s time to take your donations to Goodwill! Donating to Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries is convenient and easy. For clothing and smaller household goods, you can drop off your donations at your nearest Goodwill Store or Donation Site. You can also schedule a fee-based pick-up service by our local hauling partner, College Hunks Hauling Junk, for a discount off the regular pricing. This service includes additional benefits such as the removal of items from anywhere inside your property to be taken to Goodwill, as well as the removal of junk and items Goodwill cannot accept. Donors will receive a discount off the regular pricing, and your donation is still tax-deductible when using this service.
