Saturday, September 24th marked the second game of the 2016 STAR64 Saturday High School Rivals and the launch of the Goodwill High School Donation Challenge. The weekend’s featured game was Newport Central Catholic vs. Conner. As part of the Goodwill High School Donation Challenge, schools are asked to collect donations for the week prior to the game. In addition, before the featured game of the week, the school selects ” Goodwill Scholar Athletes of the Week” to be recognized. At Saturday’s exciting game, two more ” Goodwill Scholar Athletes of the Week” were announced: Mr. Bryce Wade and Mr. Ian Dew.
As ” Goodwill Scholar Athletes of the Week,” Bryce and Ian will now be in the consideration for the ” Goodwill Athletic Scholar of the Year.” The selection will be made at the end of the season and the lucky athlete will receive a $5000.00 college scholarship to the college of their choice. This is the second year that Ohio Valley Goodwill and STAR64 have worked together on the Goodwill High School Donation Drive and are excited about this year’s games and athletes.
During the week before the game, Newport Central Catholic High School and Conner High School and their students, families and teachers collected more than 1200 pounds of donations to benefit Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries and its 100 year old mission of putting people with disabilities and our nation’s veterans to work in our community.
Our most sincere congratulations to Bryce Wade and Ian Dew as well as Newport Central Catholic High School and Conner High School for being such wonderful examples of sharing good will in our community.
