Ohio Valley Goodwill is pleased to once again be a major sponsor for the upcoming 2016 Transition Boot Camp taking place on October 28th at the Sharonville Convention Center. Transition Bootcamp is a one-day conference for parents/caregivers, family members, educators and other professionals working with youth/young adults who have developmental disabilities who are interested in transition preparation from high school to adult life. It is followed up with multiple in-depth booster sessions on transition topics throughout the year. The Transition Bootcamp conference and vendor fair helps families and educators better prepare for the many transitions that youth experience when moving from school to community work and life. The planning committee includes Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries and consists of staff from many community agencies, county boards of DD Services, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the Cincinnati University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.
This year, the Boot Camp planning committee is excited to announce that Scott Osterfeld, will be the opening speaker who will get the conference started with a dynamic presentation on ” The Art of Community Connecting.” Last year, Scott led one of the breakout sessions and attendees loved the session so much that the committee decided to move the session to the keynote slot so that everyone could hear Scott speak.
The Transition Boot Camp will have three breakout sessions this year, with each breakout session offering five presentations. A fourth breakout session in the afternoon is specific to counties (Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren) to let attendees know what services are available in their county re: transition and community living.
In addition, the Boot Camp will offer a vendor fair where attendees can connect with various service providers, recreation programs, educational programs and transportation providers. Ohio Valley Goodwill has always been an exhibitor at the Boot Camp vendor fair event and this year, the organization will also be featuring Travis Smith, Community Access Program Supervisor, as a presenter in partnership with three other organizations to talk about “Creating a Meaningful Day in the Community: Options for Fulfillment Outside of Community Employment.”
