Ohio Valley Goodwill Looking Forward to Visit with Congressman Brad Wenstrup on August 10th!

Ohio Valley Goodwill’s corporate headquarters in Woodlawn will be the host location for a much anticipated visit with Ohio Congressman Brad Wenstrup on Wednesday, August 10th. A former combat surgeon and current army reservist, Representative Wenstrup has a major interest in veterans and the services they receive. As one of the largest providers of veteran-related reintegration and support services in the Tri-State area, Goodwill is an important stop on the Congressman’s tour.

Celebrating its 100th anniversary of service this year, Goodwill typically serves between 800 and 900 veterans and veteran family members a year helping them to obtain employment and permanent housing in the Greater Cincinnati community. Part of the Continuum of Care, which is a local consortium of more than 22 partner organizations that work together to meet the needs of homeless individuals and families [which includes military veterans and their families]; Goodwill is well known for its outreach and support of local veterans. During his visit on August 10th, Representative Wenstrup will meet with Goodwill President and CEO, Joe Byrum and Grants Director, Charlie Blythe, to find out more about the agency’s extensive support of military veterans and impact in our local community.

Brad Wenstrup was elected in 2012 to represent the people of Ohio’s Second Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. He brings experience as a doctor, Army Reserve officer, Iraq War veteran, and small business owner to help Congress tackle the economic and security challenges facing the nation.

In the 114th Congress, Brad serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the Armed Services Committee, and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where he is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity. As a member on each of these Committees, Brad is working to strengthen our military and national defense, help our returning service members transition to civilian life, and support southern Ohio’s veteran community.

A Cincinnati native, Brad graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1980. He earned a medical degree as a podiatric surgeon and later established a private practice in Cincinnati, treating patients for the last 26 years. Brad has served in the U.S. Army Reserve since 1998, currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 2005-06, he served a tour in Iraq as a combat surgeon, and was awarded a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for his service. During his time in Congress, Brad is fulfilling his Reserve duties by treating patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.
