For the second year in a row, Ohio Valley Goodwill is planning to be part of the two day Expo which is the kick-off for this year’s world-renown Flying Pig Marathon. Taking place on Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th at the Duke Energy Center, the organization looks forward to offering its new and improved “Goodwill Pig Pop-Up Shop.” After last year’s popular debut, the Goodwill team took notes on how to make the 2016 shopping experience even better. With the addition of a full length mirror and easier check-out options, this year’s new and improved “Pig Pop-Up Shop” should once again claim title to the “Most Popular” booth at the Expo. In addition, Goodwill will have donation barrels prominently displayed by the Pig Pop-Up Shop for shoe donations- a new feature at this year’s Flying Pig event.
Filled with running gear appropriate for men, women and kids, the Goodwill Pop-Up Shop was a hit last year from the minute the Expo opened. Excited race participants of all ages flocked to the shop to see what kind of great deals they could find and many talked about how happy they were that Goodwill was now part of the Flying Pig event. Voted the ” most popular booth” within the first few hours of opening, news about the Pop-Up Shop was rapidly shared through social media and shoppers overflowed throughout the day.
” The Goodwill team is delighted to be part of the annual Flying Pig Marathon Expo,” said Ann Walters, Retail Sales Manager. ” We are especially pleased that the Flying Pig Marathon marks the official celebration of “National Goodwill Week” and this year, our 100th anniversary of service,” added Walters. Runners in last year’s Pig got the idea very quickly about the Pop-Up Shop and stocked up on items that they could wear and then discard as they warmed up. The Goodwill team collected all of the donated items at the end of the race as well.
In addition to the “Goodwill Pig Pop-Up Shop” at the Expo, the afternoon of Saturday, April 30th will also showcase “Team Goodwill” as part of the annual PigAbilities event. PigAbilities is the culmination of a five week training program where athletes with disabilities complete the final mile of the Flying Pig Marathon as part of their training goals. CARA (Community Ambassadors Resource Alliance), is a primary sponsor of this event and Goodwill has been a member of the CARA group since its founding in 2004.
The “Goodwill Pig Pop-Up Shop” will be open from 12 noon- 7:00 pm on Friday, April 29th and on Saturday, April 30th from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm. There’s still time to register for this year’s Flying Pig Marathon! Don’t miss out on all of the fun. Register today at www.flyingpigmarathon.com. Also, look for the Goodwill Donation Trailer this year close to the Start Line on the day of the Flying Pig Marathon, Sunday May 1st. The new Goodwill donation trailer will serve as a reminder to this year’s runners that all clothing items donated will be used to support Ohio Valley Goodwill’s 100 year old mission of putting people with disabilities and our nation’s veterans to work. Goodwill wishes all of this year’s Flying Pig athletes the very best in their training for the 2016 Race!
