At Ohio Valley Goodwill, we’re passionate about connecting people with disabilities to job skills training opportunities that change lives. It’s the mission work for which we’re best known. But did you know we also offer several services to lend a hand to our nation’s veterans?
May is Military Appreciation Month, so we thought it’s the perfect time to remind you about our veteran services! Here are four ways we help our military veterans:
No veteran should find themselves without a place to call home. Through various services, Ohio Valley Goodwill can help veterans experiencing homelessness find a temporary housing solution through rapid re-housing or rental assistance. Ohio Valley Goodwill also works to position veterans so they’re ready to find and sustain permanent housing. Keep reading to learn how!
Goodwill is focused on changing lives through work, so we help unemployed and unhoused veterans work toward a goal of long-term self-sufficiency through employment. Whether they’re in need of job skills training, help preparing for an interview, or resume review, Goodwill helps local veterans prepare for their next opportunity. Once our veterans have earned a position, we stay by their side to make sure they have everything they need to stay and grow in the job.
The veterans we serve are assigned a case manager, someone who’s by their side during their journey toward their goals. While full-time employment and independence is our ultimate goal, many veterans need help with some of the skills we all need to be self-sufficient members of the community. Our case managers can help with money and time management, health care training, problem-solving, home maintenance and safety training, and even nutritional guidance. We’re there to ensure those we serve live happy, healthy, and fulfilled lives.
In many cases, veterans aren’t sure where to turn to access services available to them. Ohio Valley Goodwill is able to connect the veterans we serve to many additional services in the community. This way, our veterans are fully supported as they work toward their goals.
Learn more about the services we provide to veterans in need, and find out how you can support our work by donating to Goodwill and shopping in our retail stores. Please note that veterans interested in Goodwill programs and services must be referred by a Goodwill partner organization such as the Veterans Administration.
