Bring comfortable clothing
Layered clothing is important when you’re ” roughing it” outdoors. Here are some basic pieces you’ll want to bring:
- Lightweight jacket
- Shorts
- T-shirts
- Long pants and long shirts (even if the forecast looks warm, the nights could be cool!)
- Hiking boots and thick socks
- Swimsuit
- Sunglasses
- Wide-brimmed hat

You can find most, if not all, of these items at your local Goodwill store at incredible prices! Be sure to look at the tags “” you could find high-quality gear from well-known outdoor clothing brands such as Patagonia, Columbia, Eddie Bauer, or The North Face.

Stock up on cooking supplies
One of the best parts of camping is preparing delicious meals outdoors, from hot dogs to hamburgers and, of course, s’mores! Shop at your local Goodwill store to create a ” portable kitchen” with supplies like small pots and pans, cutting boards, reusable water bottles or thermal mugs, and utensils. You’ll feel a lot better if secondhand cookware gets dirty or damaged while camping, instead of your everyday kitchen supplies!
Make your own entertainment
Camping is a time to be screen-free and get in touch with nature. Leave the electronics at home and bring along some ” old-school” entertainment instead! How about board games, playing cards, lawn games, or a good book? You can find it all for less at Goodwill!

Finally, you’ll need a nice, sturdy bag to carry all your camping gear. Look for a quality backpack or duffle bag at Goodwill to store your camping essentials.
