Ohio Valley Goodwill was delighted to welcome thousands of excited shoppers to its 2022 Pig Pop Up Shop over the weekend during the Flying Pig Marathon Health and Fitness Expo. With racks of athleisure and running gear at only $5, the Goodwill Pop Up Shop was one of the most popular attractions of the two day Expo event. The Goodwill team had worked for months ahead of time collecting just the right inventory to attract shoppers to this year’s Pig Pop Up Shop. Retail team members were very pleased to hear from shoppers as they checked out, “Thank you for being here” and “We love the Goodwill Pop-Up Shop!”
The 2022 Expo took place on Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th and featured dozens of vendors with everything from apparel to shoes to nutritional supplements for all those in attendance. The excitement of the Goodwill Pop-Up Shop was only matched by PigAbilities which took place on Saturday, April 30th at 12 noon. The 2022 PigAbilities event was the first time in two years that the group of athletes were able to participate in person due to concerns about the pandemic. Ohio Valley Goodwill has been the Title Sponsor of the PigAbilities event for the past 6 years and was more than excited about this year’s reunion which featured a record-breaking number of athletes- more than 420! Flying Pig Marathon Executive Director, Iris Simpson-Bush along with Goodwill Marketing Director and Event Coordinator, Sharon Hannon, welcomed and celebrated the PigAbilities reunion with loud cheers from all of the athletes and coaches involved as well as the many “cheerleaders” and supporters on the sidelines. Despite some brief rain showers, the PigAbilities athletes raced on, undeterred and intent on crossing the Finish Swine and collecting their medals.
The year’s PigAbilities event was supported by not only Goodwill but also the Pig Works team, Paycor, Hamilton County DD Services as well as Butler DD and the Center for Independent Living Options (CILO) as well as many other agencies in the larger Cincinnati community in an effort to increase awareness and participation in the inclusive and welcoming event for athletes of all abilities.
This year’s PigAbilities event finished in the best possible way with medals for all participants and a party at the Goodwill Celebration booth which was hosted by community volunteers, Audrey, Julia and Sydney (Digital Media Manager, Zoltan von Dienes-Oehm’s daughters). All of the Team Goodwill athletes loved the cookies and the CARE team really enjoyed ringing the victory bell which signifies a successful finish to the Flying Pig Marathon event.
Our most sincere CONGRATULATIONS to all of the 2022 PigAbilities athletes and to “Team Goodwill” for their outstanding performance in this year’s PigAbilities event! See the PigAbilities video here https://www.facebook.com/cincigoodwill/videos/1099483627579873
